If you're anything like me, you've had your share of times when you keep trying new things to get your body looking the way you want it, only to get there and want it to look just a little bit better.

Why should you listen to me?

Besides the fact that I'm a Certified Personal Trainer and accomplished athlete, I've also been right where you are. I've had the gamut of issues from being an injured athlete to not knowing how to eat properly or running myself so ragged that I'd get sick and put on weight because I couldn't do anything...only to find myself depressed from lack of activity and then once I'm able to work out again, just feeling down in the dumps about how my body has changed.  I've been there, a lot. 

I went through a period in my life when being healthy wasn't exactly at the top of my priority list.  You can learn more about that if you want to read My Story.

But I had a life changing experience that actually was one of the stepping stones to becoming a Certified Personal Trainer.

Close to 10 years ago, I was caught in an 'addictive' training cycle.

I can recall taking a 90 minute spin class at the gym. . . followed by a 5 mile run. . . and then another 45 minutes of weight training.

Or running 6 miles. . . lifting for 30-40 minutes. . . and then diving in the pool for a 2500 meter swim workout. 

I trained so hard that I tore muscles that put me out of commission for months at a time, or became sick because I didn’t give my body enough time to rest and recover before putting it through the next rigorous routine.

And yet, even though I was working SO HARD to obtain the 'PERFECT BODY,' I still never felt like I looked quite good enough.

But after years of trying different methods, trying different diets, cleanses and strict regimens, I met a trainer who turned my workouts (and my life) around.

She took a look at my training routine and instantly made me change everything about it. She told me my hard work was counterproductive, and that I wasn't eating sufficiently to restore the nutrients I had lost through my workouts. 

She also helped me see the beautiful person I was and look at my body in a completely different light.  She helped me realize that I didn't need to spend HOURS per day trying to burn as much fat and calories as I could and that instead, I could eat more meals and spend less time working out and in turn, feel better both inside and out.

Yes, I resisted. I felt like the LAST thing I needed was to work out less and eat more. I was terrified I'd quickly gain weight and hate my body even more.

But I'd been sick, tired, and injured so many times and I was exhausted from beating myself up for so long and thinking I needed to have a flawless body (not realizing that was impossible to obtain) that I was willing to give her ideas a shot.

I followed her advice, decreased the duration of my workouts (training the same number of days per week, but in shorter intervals), and incorporated more rest time into my schedule. In fact, every couple of months I actually took an entire week off with NO exercise of any kind! That was tough at first, but I found after I’d done it a few times that my body bounced back even stronger after that rest period was over.

And I began to nourish my body in healthy ways that I'd never even considered before and I'm NOT talking about diets.  She didn't believe in dieting and now, neither do I. 

In just a few months, my new routine left me stronger, leaner and more energetic than ever.

I also had my life back. I was finally able to enjoy other activities I didn’t have time for before (because before, if I wasn’t working, I was working out!).

The BEST PART was that I had so much more energy and I felt FANTASTIC, inside and out.  

Since then, I've refined the concepts I learned from my trainer and created different ways to tweak my training schedule and diet for maximum results in minimal time. The difference now is that I am no longer experimenting with new things for the purpose of trying to lose a 'few more pounds...' pounds that I didn't really even need to lose.

Now...I listen, read, learn and incorporate these lessons into a program with a primary focus on health overall well-being.  I no longer strive for the unobtainable 'perfect body' (nobody is perfect).  Instead, I embrace my flaws and strive to be healthier.

  • General Nutrition Tips – You can exercise until your heart’s content but if you aren’t putting the right foods in your body, you’ll never see or feel the results you want.
